Retail Bicycle Shop Business Plan

March 3, 2023 By JamesCall Leave a Comment

Retail Bicycle Shop Business Plan

University Cycle Works is a reputable bicycle specialty store that offers retail sales of bicycles, parts, accessories and clothing. It is in a high-traffic area with a focus on universities.

University Cycle Works’ primary market is the university student body. This population usually has a turnover of 25% to 25% per year. The university faculty members and staff make up the secondary market. The greater Metroburg community makes up the tertiary marketplace.

Hubert ‘#8220’ Hub has been the Assistant Manager of University Cycle Works for five-years. Hubert also has seven additional years of retail and service experience in the bicycle industry. Hub first began investigating the ownership of a bike business two years ago, however, the local Metroburg market seemed saturated with shops. Hub approached his boss to discuss the possibility of buying an existing store. Two years of negotiations culminated in the sale of University Cycle Works to Hub, effective July 1, 2001. The goal is to seamlessly transfer ownership. Staff, bike lines and location will remain the same.

Metroburg Business Bank is currently preparing this business plan for presentation to them and their major suppliers of parts, accessories, and new bicycles. A substantial part of the past year’s planning has been negotiations with these suppliers to maintain the current financial agreements as the business changed hands. These negotiations benefited greatly by the good working relationships Hub had developed with the various suppliers’ sales representatives, who advocated on Hub’s behalf. In the meantime, the suppliers have granted provisional continuation of existing terms.

Please Note: This sample plan has been disguised to hide names and proprietary information as well as some financials.

1.1 Objectives

The objectives for University Cycle Works are:

  1. University Cycle Works continues to deliver the highest quality sales and services.
  2. Facilitate a smooth transfer of ownership
  3. Maintain a financially strong business. Validate the trust and advocacy of others for this business purchase.
  4. Repay the start-up loan provided by family members within the first year.
  5. Achieve monthly or yearly sales equal to, or better than, the previous year under the former owners.
  6. This year’s goal is to increase the sales of rainwear and bicycle-specific garments.
  7. To maintain growth in service and sales, focus marketing on the new student influx.

1.2 Keys for Success

Our prominent and high-visibility location directly adjacent to Metroburg State University has been key to our success as the leading bicycle service provider to the university community.

The continuance of established accounts payable, sales programs, and co-op advertising resources by suppliers of bicycles, accessories, and parts makes the financial plan reasonable and attainable. Without this support, purchasing the business would not be acceptable.

University Cycle Works is a well-respected name that provides continuity for customers, employees, and the owner.

The shop’s employees are just as important as the other items. It is crucial to retain and encourage them. They are the vitality of University Cycle Works. University Cycle Works has built a reputation for building long-term relationships. We want to be part in the university experience by addressing our customers by name.

Bicycle Art Business Plan

March 3, 2023 By JamesCall Leave a Comment

Bicycle Art Business Plan

The Concept

BikeArt&#8217’s mission it to provide functional items and art made from recycled bicycle components. Steve’s spouse, Shoodnt, will make the art. The featured products include wall clocks as well picture frames, table tops, chair, table, mobiles wind chimes and book ends.

BikeArt will have its own kiosk, located in the Valley River Mall. BikeArt can display larger items on the adjacent floor space thanks to the lease’s outstanding terms and conditions. This will increase sales because of the high pedestrian traffic to the mall.

BikeArt expects to reach profitability in the ninth month and make profits of almost $40,000 per year by the third.

Beginnings

The first month will serve to set up the kiosk, and get things going. Part-time employees will then be trained and hired during this month. Sales will begin slowly during this first month. The flow of customers passing by the kiosk will continue to increase sales from the second month.

Start-up costs total $45,000 This will be paid for by Steve Useitagyen’s $25,000 equity investment and an additional $20,000 small-business loan.

The Company

Steve Useitagyen will manage the company as a sole proprietorship.

Steve Useitagyen is qualified to work within this niche market. The University of Portland awarded him a combined degree in art design and business administration. Steve worked in a bicycle shop throughout college. He started as a mechanic and moved on to sales. The shop was then managed by Steve for two years.

BikeArt will hire three part time employees to operate the kiosk. Steve, who will manage the purchasing, hiring, payroll, etc.

The Market

BikeArt is targeting two market segments: industrial art aficionados as well as bicycle enthusiasts. Both of these segments are very popular in Eugene. BikeArt will be focusing on these two categories because they are the most likely users of this type art work.

BikeArt has many competitors:

  • You can also find other shops in the mall.
  • Art galleries
  • Bicycle shops.

BikeArt will capitalize on its unique position in a niche market, being the only retailer who exclusively sells bicycle artwork. Since the mall gets lots of foot traffic all day, it is like having your own show room in the middle of the hallway of a crowded mall.

Success

The company plans to grow slowly and establish a sustainable level of sales and cash flow before seeking to expand. BikeArt intends to open more kiosks in Salem Corvallis, Portland and Portland after this has been accomplished. This expansion is expected to take place after year three.

The Break-even Analysis indicates $15,212 is needed in monthly revenue to reach the break-even point. Pricing of BikeArt’s products will be based on a desired net margin of 12%. BikeArt’s products are locally made works of art and prices will range from $40 to $500 each.

The business is expected to reach profitability by month 9, with revenues of $147,000 and profits at $35,500 by the end year 2.

1.1 Mission

BikeArt is a company that creates functional and artistic items from bicycle parts. Our goal is to keep customers coming back. If we follow this maxim, all else will fall into place. We will exceed your expectations with our services.

1.2 Objectives

The following are the goals for the first 3 years of operation:

  • To create a product-based kiosk whose primary goal is to exceed customer’s expectations.
  • The increase in the number of products sold by 20% each year.
  • To develop a sustainable retail outlet that sells artwork and functional items made out of recycled parts.

Bicycle Manufacturer Business Plan

March 3, 2023 By JamesCall Leave a Comment

Bicycle Manufacturer Business Plan

Concrete Carbon Parts (Concrete Carbon), is a California-based firm that designs and manufactures a variety o carbon fiber seatposts. The California L.L.C. founded the company. The owner has run the business from his home for the past one year. The company has sold individual seatsposts through the Internet to customers and the owner wants the company to go to the next level.

Products

Concrete Carbon is a supplier of high-end carbon fibre seatposts. The shafts are made from custom-drawn carbon fibre and the head unit is CNC machined from 6000 series aluminum. Josh has developed a unique design for posts after extensive torture testing. Concrete Carbon can offer high-end seats for road and mountain bikes that are light and comfortable thanks to carbon fiber’s natural ability to disperse vibrations. They are also completely safe. Concrete Carbon has yet not experienced a failure of a seatpost.

Concrete Carbon’s competitive edge is based on its product, it is able to offer a range of posts to properly fit each individual rider. The range of posts are based on rider weight. There is no manufacturer that offers custom fitting. This is very important as it affects the ride, safety margin, weight, and other factors. The post can be tuned to the rider’s weight, ensuring that the rider is safe and comfortable. The post has so much flex that it can be described as a type of suspension.

Concrete Carbon will utilize an outsourcing model to produce. Concrete Carbon can then concentrate on what is most important, serving the customer. Production will be outsourced by two industry leaders. Josh will supply the subcontractors with the design details. The parts will be made to order by them. The subcontractors were chosen in part on Josh’s networking contacts established with them prior to Concrete Carbon. They were also selected for their ability to scale up production as needed.

Market

Concrete Carbon sells seatposts only to individuals. Concrete Carbon will need to start selling seatposts to new customers in order for it to grow. Concrete Carbon has decided to start selling to distributors. With 343,009 customers potential, the annual growth rate of individual customers is 10%. The growth rate for distributors is 4% with 14 potential customers. While the growth rate of distributors is not that high the sheer volume that distributors will sell and buy relative to the individuals makes the potential market very exciting.

Marketing

Concrete Carbon will employ two somewhat distinct marketing strategies to reach its perspective customer segments. The first strategy uses the website to raise awareness of Concrete Carbon’s parts to individual consumers. The website has been in operation for a year. Continuous improvements will be made to it. Concrete Carbon will be present at various trade shows in the industry to build sales relationships with distributors. The best place to make new connections with potential distributors is the trade show. Concrete Carbon will be able to invest trust in many relationships because business relationships are built on trust.

The first year’s sales will be $119,000 and then rise to $332,000 the second year. Concrete Carbon Parts will see a steady increase in profitability and gross margins over the next three-years.

1.1 Keys to Success

  • Products designed with precision.
  • Follow up on all promises made to vendors and customers.
  • Strict financial controls.

1.2 Mission

It is Concrete Carbon Parts’ mission to create the finest quality carbon seatposts on the market. All of our products will benefit from lightweight, comfort, safety and lightness.

1.3 Objectives

  • To become the world’s leading manufacturer of carbon seatpost bicycles.
  • Concrete Carbon should increase sales in order make it a sustainable enterprise.
  • You can significantly increase your sales by entering a new market segment.
