EcoAquatics is a hobbyist company started by a sophomore high school student. Its primary goal is to allow its owner to pursue an interest and make it into a small business. This will provide her with the same economic benefits as other students who have less interesting jobs.
EcoAquatics can manage saltwater aquariums on behalf of its clients. We will help every step of the way, from setting up the aquarium, to cleaning it, maintaining it, and feeding the fish. We can help you through each step, or they can just relax and enjoy the finished product.
Our service can be used for a range of needs, from those who have never had an aquarium before and need step by step help, to someone who is an expert but does not have time to do everything. We will always tell our clients the truth so they don’t get anything that won’t work in their tank.
In the beginning stages of his business, the owner will be focusing on providing services to friends and family. Later, the company plans to expand its offerings to small businesses within the Eugene area. It is a hobby-based business so startup costs are minimal. The family friend will provide an interest-free loan that will finance the start-up. The loan will be repaid in year three.
EcoAquatics is registered in Oregon. They have been running the aquarium of their first client for four month as they write this business plan.
1.1 Mission
EcoAquatics is a hobbyist business intended to give its owner a way to develop environmentally-sound aquariums, sensitive to the potential ecological dangers of the aquarium hobby worldwide, on a small scale appropriate to a high school student’s infrastructure and reach. It should be rewarding, enjoyable, full of learning, useful for clients, and profitable for the owner.
1.2 Keys for Success
-
- Maintain the vision of a part-time hobbyist business, moving only slowly and appropriately up.
- Be informed on the environmental impacts of home and workplace aquariums.
1.3 Objectives
-
- In the short term, my main goal is to grow my aquarium hobby. This will involve building and maintaining aquariums outside my house with close-in clients who are willing to work with me in an informal manner. I don’t want to pretend this a full-time business with completely normal business motivations.
- The long-term goal is to make this a business that I can use to support myself in college and high school. This will allow me to earn a portion of my income through a parttime venture that relates to vocation.
