The public wants: (1) access to the methods of communication and volumes of information now available on the Internet, and (2) access at a cost they can afford and in such a way that they aren’t socially, economically, or politically isolated.
JavaNet, unlike other cafes, provides a unique forum for communication via the Internet. JavaNet’s mission is to create a community that can communicate worldwide in a social, educational and entertaining environment.
JavaNet caters to people who want to take a guided tour of the Internet. It also caters to users who have a passion for computers and are looking to socialize with them. JavaNet will also be a hub for professionals, both local and international, who want to collaborate or check email in a relaxed environment. JavaNet’s computers will be used by these professionals, as well as their laptops to connect to the Internet. JavaNet’s target market includes people of all ages, from Generation X and Baby Boomers who grew up in a world dominated by computers to those who are now realizing that computers can be ignored.
Cafe Paradisio Coffee Corner Coffee Corner Coffee Corner and Allann Bros are the main competitors to this segment of retail coffee. These businesses are located within or near downtown and target the same segment as JavaNet (i.e. educated, upwardly-mobile students and business people).
JavaNet will follow a differentiation strategy to achieve a competitive advantage in the cafe market. JavaNet stands out from other Eugene cafes by providing Internet service. JavaNet is also able to offer Internet service in Eugene, providing a cozy environment and coffee as well as bakery items.
