Dancing is a historical tradition. Since centuries, ballroom dancing has been a part of social events. Swing and Latin are the Waltz or Foxtrots from days past. Social dancing has proven its long-lasting presence in modern society. It is in our medias, our musics and daily social functions. It isn’t taught to children from parents so they are searching schools that offer it. With Dancesport being considered as a medal sport in the next Olympics, more people will be exposed to Social and Ballroom dance.
U&ME Dance aims to bring quality, affordable dancing instruction to Bellingham. Bellingham already has a dedicated and active ballroom dancing community. However, there has never been an actual dance studio, where these people can expand their knowledge of dance and enjoy being with other people of like interests. We intend to draw in the existing dance community and build a solid base of support to help us get started. We will then be able spread the message that dancing can be fun and an exciting way to spend your time. There are many benefits to dancing that will attract people from many backgrounds and interests.
U&ME Dance founders and owners are Toni Simler & Mary Evans, a mother/daughter pair. Since 1995, both have been actively involved in social dancing and ballroom. Mary worked in Seattle dance studios as an instructor and manager. In the last three year, she was an independent contractor and taught private dance instruction. Toni recently retired from Lucent Technologies. Toni worked as a manager in customer services, contract management and business management for over 30 years. Both she and her husband were avid students of dance. They took lessons for many years. They still dance socially. Toni and Mary will form a strong team to make U&ME Dance successful.
