Introduction
Marrowstone Advertising Consultants exists to provide marketing consultations and develop advertising campaigns that benefit the nonprofit sector. Our long-term goal is to be THE preferred advertising agency for all nonprofit institutions across the country. Our firm is not interested in simply producing a service for our clients. Our firm believes in building a relationship with our clients over time so that their message is not only delivered but also stimulates thought and leads to action.
The Company
Marrowstone Advertising Consultants, a limited liability partnership, will be registered in Delaware. This is for tax purposes. Mr. Curtiss Colley, a former Boy Scouts of America marketing executive, is the founder. Mr. Cole has brought together a highly respected group of marketing, development, and graphic art specialists who, combined, have a total of 35 years of experience with nonprofit organizations.
The company currently has only a small number of private investors. They do not plan on going public. The company has its main offices in Reston, Virginia. The facilities include a design lab, conference rooms and office spaces. The company plans to start offering its services in January.
The Services
The company can provide a customized, complete advertising campaign that covers all printed and audio-visual media. You can use them for radio and television advertisements, billboards or building ads, brochures or direct mail, as well as business cards. A seven step process that has proven effective and works is the management’s approach to creating a winning campaign.
The main clients for the company will be start-up and small nonprofit institutions as well as local governments. By focusing on institutions such as these that have special needs, we believe we will be able to better serve our clients and produce a superior service that is more effective that other advertising firms.
The Market
Marrowstone Advertising Consultants has a focus on three types main types of nonprofits, those who work in the fields of environmental, youth development and cultural awareness. This is because these types of organizations have the greatest needs and/or are the best capitalized in the nonprofit industry.
As evidenced by the growth of non-profits in new areas like environmental awareness, profitability and growth are expected to be high in this market. Due to the increased capitalization of such agencies we are now seeing a widening gap in what these organizations need and what conventional advertising companies have to offer.
Financial considerations
Start-up assets required are $122,300, which includes cash needed to support operations until revenues reach an acceptable level. Starting expenses are $31,700. While the majority of the company’s obligations will come from outside investors and management investments, we have received $16,000 in current borrowings from Bank of America Commercial Investments. We expect to repay the principal in two year. Charter Bank of Richmond will repay a long-term loan of $45,000 in ten years.
The company anticipates reaching profitability in year 2 and doesn’t anticipate any cash flow problems. Our conservative estimate is that the break-even point will be achieved by three projects per year for the first three years.
